- The match was expected to be tense, but Alfons Davies scored through a long-range shot, and Morocco won 3-0.
In the 1/8 final, Canada’s team secured a victory over Morocco with a score of 3-0. Canada’s coach Jesse Marsch said his team was able to control the game, while also taking advantage of the opponent’s mistakes, and that the result could be different.
According to Marsch, before the tournament he believed that the team would have to face a very difficult opponent, and that the match would be decided by small details. He also noted that Canada had shown good discipline and teamwork throughout the game.
Marsch explained the team’s two goals in the following way: the first one came from a good run, which he said was the result of Morocco’s defensive errors, and the second goal was scored after a dangerous counterattack. He added that the team’s confidence grew after each goal.
The overall trend of the match was that Morocco couldn’t break through Marsch’s defense. Morocco, however, showed that it could create chances, but it failed to convert them into goals.
At the same time, the coach noted that the team’s young players were able to maintain intensity and make the right decisions in key moments. In the end, Canada managed to win 3-0.
It is also worth noting the situation with Alfons Davies from “the moment of the incident”: he had a problem with the ball, and the referee decided to stop the match. In the end, however, the game resumed and Canada continued to play.
In addition, the coach said that Morocco’s goal was not counted because of an offside infringement, and that the team should focus on the next match.
