Tesla is testing a modified version of its Cybercab in another part of Texas. The company has removed the steering wheel and pedals, while the vehicle’s software handles driving; the monitor on the passenger side is used to display driving information. For now, details are still limited, but the company has posted it on X.

The testing involves a two-year pilot, with Tesla presenting the design Cybercab inspired by We, Robot back in 2024. This time, the company is testing its service robot in Austin with Model Y modifications, in which the monitor is pedal-free.

Earlier, Cybercab testing took place in several cities across the U.S., where it was reported that there were no pedals. As for the details, the first video was posted on the public by Tesla in which the vehicle is shown driving without a steering wheel.

The service robot testing is expected to continue through 2025 for modified SUV Model Y. The company’s regulatory issue in Texas, where it is believed that 42 robots tested by Tesla — 577.
