Ali Khamenei’s father skips funeral prayers; Iran’s wounded supreme leader’s brother also absent

Iranian media reported that Iran’s wounded supreme leader Ali Khamenei did not attend the funeral prayer for his father because he was wounded in Tehran 5 days ago, Reuters reported.
On Monday in Tehran, the funeral prayer was held for Ali Khamenei’s brother, Mojtaba Khamenei. The prayer was held, according to tradition, in three stages: for Ali Khamenei, and then for his brother, who died after being wounded in a separate incident 28 days earlier. According to the tradition, the funeral prayer for Ali Khamenei’s brother was held without him.
Reuters said that the wounded Ali Khamenei was not present, and that the prayer was held for him. Reuters also said that the statement that Ali Khamenei’s father was absent was published after the prayer.
In a report, RFE/RL said the report that was published about the prayers that took place on the same day, and that Ali Khamenei’s brother did not attend the funeral prayer, citing audio-visual material from him. RFE/RL also said that Iranian authorities, however, may have explained why the prayer was held without him.
Earlier, the same report said that the funeral prayer for Ali Khamenei’s brother, according to RFE/RL, was held on the same day in Tehran, and that the prayer was held without him. According to RFE/RL, the reason was that he was wounded.
