Aston Martin prepares an update for the Hungarian Grand Prix
- The team is preparing changes with a new nose, revised aerodynamics, and weight reduction.
- Newey explained that the start of the season was complicated by the late start of the project, organizational shortcomings, and health issues.
- Further plans are tied to Alonso’s result and future development of the Honda engine.
Aston Martin plans to introduce its first major car update at the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 24-26. The team wants to reduce the car’s weight and significantly change its aerodynamics.
Technical partner and team principal Adrian Newey said the package of changes includes a new nose, a partially updated rear suspension, and redesigned aerodynamic surfaces. According to him, the overall structure will remain similar, but the goal is to bring the car closer to the permitted weight limit.
Newey also said the team deliberately held back minor improvements in order to focus on one noticeable step forward. He explained that the difficult start to the season was linked to the late start of development, organizational problems, and the car’s excess weight.
Separately, Newey spoke about health issues. He noted that he feels normal now, but the past period was difficult and required a more careful balance between work and well-being.
The team hopes the update will also be important for Fernando Alonso, whose contract expires after this season. Newey said the Spanish driver wants to see clear progress before making a decision about his future.
After the Hungarian round, Aston Martin is also expecting progress from Honda’s power unit, but the company has not yet announced when it will debut.
