The Belgian football federation (RBFA) said it reacted to FIFA’s decision to overturn the suspension of Folarin Balogun, who would have missed the 1/8 final match against Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-0). The federation believes it is possible to avoid all the possible consequences for its defense of fair play.
In a comment, RBFA said that FIFA referred to Article 27 of the disciplinary code, which provides for the possibility of canceling a sanction if it is clearly shown that the decision was made in error. The federation also noted that in the match, the player was shown a red card (for a second bookable offense), which was ruled by the referee, and that the decision was based on the words of Balogun.
RBFA also sent a request to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding FIFA 2026, in which it said it would be necessary to consider all possible options, in order to ensure that the fair play principle is upheld.
As a result, Balogun could play in the 1/8 final against Belgium. The match is scheduled for 2:00, and the federation also noted that it is expected to be broadcast by the United States broadcaster, with the referee being Donald Trump’s decision to overturn FIFA’s suspension.
