Microsoft reportedly wants to buy out State of Decay 3 for Xbox
- Microsoft is said to be considering a deal for Xbox that could involve either acquiring or buying out studios
- Undead Labs may be in the mix for a sale, and it could even be involved in State of Decay 3
- Rumors of a potential sale of Marvels Blade are also circulating, with Arkane Studios starting talks on a potential acquisition deal
For Xbox, the company is reportedly planning to make changes while it continues to work with studios. As stated by The Verge, Microsoft may either acquire or buy out studios, potentially as part of a larger strategy.
Earlier this winter, GamesBeat and Windows Central reported on what Microsoft might do regarding studio acquisitions for Undead Labs, and what could happen if the deal goes through. If the sale doesnt fall through, the studio could be acquired, which would affect the future of State of Decay 3. The rumor was not confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase.
State of Decay 3 has not been officially confirmed yet. In the meantime, the studio had previously planned to release the game in 2027, while the same target date for PS5 is also being discussed.
The Verge also claims that Microsoft is considering acquiring the studio. The report says that Bloomberg previously wrote that the company is looking at acquiring studios such as Compulsion Games, Double Fine, and Ninja Theory. GamesBeat adds that the outlet believes Microsoft is trying to buy Undead Labs.
The Verge also reported that the studio deal could involve a purchase price of 6 billion dollars, and that the number of jobs that could be eliminated would be no less than 500 layoffs.
Following the news, the CEO of Xbox, Asha Sharma, posted a message on the social network about the need for difficult decisions, saying that the Xbox business is not going to be easy.
