Panthers reportedly made Markstrom available to Rodrigues for trade talks

On April 30, 2026, New Jersey Devils reportedly acquired Jacob Markstrom from Angus Krukshenksa of Florida Panthers, according to The Athletic.
According to The Athletic, Devils traded Evan Rodrigues, Jesper Bukovista and Ben Stivsa. In addition, as the deal was not finalized at the time, New Jersey did not include any compensation for Markstrom.
As The Athletic notes, Markstrom is under contract for up to $6 million per year, which is why the teams start to negotiate during the offseason. The report also says that Panthers will not be able to get rid of Markstrom’s contract for nothing.
Panthers have decided to change their goaltending situation by moving on from the current starter tandem of Sergiy Bobrovsky, who is under contract through the end of the season Wednesday.
Markstrom is 36 years old. The Panthers signed him in 2008 after playing for Florida. New Jersey won with a season-high .883 save percentage, and then finished with .892 in save percentage. The 2025 season he posted .911 save percentage.
According to ESPN, Panthers also discussed a possible trade with Akiru Shmida from Vegas Golden Knights. ESPN also reports that Markstrom’s new contract, which runs through the end of the season, includes a cap hit of $6 million.
ESPN also says that Panthers have been trying to move Devils to Rodrigues, Bukovista and Stivsa for Angus Krukshenksa. ESPN also adds that the goaltender was set to be traded before July 1, and the teams that are likely to include Toronto, Edmonton, Carolina and San Jose.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, has played a total of 69 matches this Florida season, scoring 11 goals and 20 assists. Bukovista, 27, has played for Devils and scored his first goal in a season after being injured in the final.
