Trump says he has a plan for new sanctions on Iran

President Donald Trump said in a statement that he is planning new sanctions on Iran. He added that he believes the “threat of force” will lead to “significant war” and that it will be carried out through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a report, AP said that Trump’s remarks about Iran include threats to close the country’s oil exports, which the outlet said would be carried out through sanctions. The report also said that the remarks about the sanctions were not new.

AP previously reported that Trump made the remarks about possible military action against Iran. It said, 7 times in the past, the former president called for military action against Iran; 21 times Trump called for a “preventive” strike against Iran; 18 times he said that the sanctions would be “the strongest possible” against Iran; and until 27 times he said that the sanctions would be “the most effective” against Iran.

It also said that on April 17, Trump posted a message on social media in which he called for military action against Iran and said that the country’s nuclear program could be stopped through “maximum pressure.”

In a separate report, Independent said former Democratic Mark Kelly criticized Trump’s remarks about possible military action against Iran. In a statement, Independent said Kelly criticized Trump for having “real estate buddy” Steve Witkoff and also for having close ties with Jared Kushner, and that this was part of a broader pattern of connections with wealthy associates.

Independent also said that Kelly’s criticism is based on the fact that Trump previously said he would “do something” about Iran, and that the former president’s remarks about Iran’s nuclear program were “not consistent” with his earlier statements.
