A man in Myanmar posted a photo claiming it was proof that Aung San Suu Kyi is alive

In a detailed report on Suu Kyi’s condition, the Myanmar Armed Forces (Tatmadaw) said that she is alive: “We have received information that she is alive,” the report says, adding that the photo of Suu Kyi was taken by the Tatmadaw in the country.
In the meantime, Myanmar’s ruling junta said that the reason for the phone call was that Suu Kyi’s health had deteriorated. AP reports that the call was made from inside the prison, with the same distinctive voice as in previous recordings.
The man who posted the photo did not provide further details about the photo, including where exactly it was taken, but did say that it was a “proof of life” photo. According to AP, the photo shows Suu Kyi holding her hand up to her head.
However, the photo appears to show a birthday greeting card that reads “Happy Birthday Aunty Suu, 19.6.2026,” which could indicate that she is 81 years old. AP also notes that in the photo, Suu Kyi’s physical condition appears to have deteriorated, and her eyes look slightly different from those in previous images.
Independent reports that the photo of Suu Kyi taken using a smartphone is dated June 19, 2026. Independent also says that Suu Kyi Kim Aris posted a “proof of life” (a statement that she is alive).
