Greenwich and Kent universities launch LASEUG 7-year version

• Greenwich and Kent are joining London and South East University Group (LASEUG), the official application for approval for 7 years.
• LASEUG says it plans to enroll more than 50,000 students across campuses in London, Medway, and Kent; the university group will review the application for the name.

Greenwich and Kent universities are joining London and South East University Group, which is known as LASEUG. The official application group is submitted for 7 years.

A new university group format, with a material basis, plans to enroll more than 50,000 students across campuses in London, Medway, and Kent. The submission indicates, however, that the third-party university will be required to close the remaining course at the University of the United Kingdom.

In the materials it is stated that the application is planned to be reviewed once every year, and the plan will be reviewed by the Department for Education. It is also noted that the university will be required to operate in accordance with the academic division and the name of the university.

In particular, students will be able to receive funding for the university, and the person about whom the decision will be made will practice in the university group. The materials also state that Prof Jane Harrington, who is the vice-chancellor of University of Greenwich and new chief executive of LASEUG, will be responsible for the development of the new university model.

In the project of the application, the financial impact on the university in the UK is described. In particular, it is stated that the Office for Students (OfS) will consider the risk of the application by 24 providers over the next 12 months, and the number of providers that may face financial difficulties by 2025-26 is 45%.

It is also noted that the UK Parliament’s select committee has warned that the financial crisis in the sector may affect the university. The materials also state that with the new division of roles, the number of students will be reduced, and the number of providers will be increased.

It is also stated that King’s College London and Cranfield University have plans to merge in 2027.
