Ukraine signed a deal with Sweden for 16 Gripen E jets

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that at a meeting with Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation on defense and signed a deal for the purchase of 16 Gripen E jets.

The document provides for the implementation of the relevant provisions of the agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Sweden regarding the supply of military aircraft, and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) will be responsible for its execution. The agreement also includes training and technical support.

Under the terms of the agreement, 16 Gripen E aircraft will be delivered in 2029. The purchase will be financed through a credit line from the European Union and the United Kingdom.

In total, Ukraine will receive 32 aircraft: 16 Gripen E and 16 Gripen C/D.

As stated, Ukraine will receive the first 16 Gripen C/D aircraft by 2027.

According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, the agreement was reached as part of the cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden and will help strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

At the same time, the Swedish side will provide training and technical support under the contract, while the European Union will finance the purchase of the aircraft.
