Zaluzhnyi says Ukraine will never join NATO

Earlier, Ukrainian Velikobritaniya ambassador Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said that Ukraine will never join NATO. European Pravda reports this with reference to the words of Kyiv’s former mayor, which he said in a material.

Zaluzhnyi explained his position by saying that he cannot imagine Ukraine joining NATO in any way. Even so, he said, that is why he feels that the current situation in Ukraine is not a problem of NATO but rather of the Russian Federation. He also noted that the problem is that NATO has not been able to prevent the war in Ukraine.

Zaluzhnyi added that NATO, in his opinion, is a military alliance, and therefore it will not be able to help Ukraine in any way. At the same time, he said that Ukraine’s path to NATO is impossible, because it requires security guarantees that NATO cannot provide.

The concept of Ukraine’s security guarantees without NATO is also discussed in the materials of European Pravda. In particular, the publication says that Zaluzhnyi believes that the JEF structure is managed by the United States and that Ukraine has been participating in it since 2015, but it does not have any influence on the decisions. In this context, he says that the JEF does not have an alternative mechanism to NATO. It is also noted that the JEF is not an alliance, but a format for cooperation.

Also, the materials say that Ukraine entered NATO through the JEF. In particular, it is stated that the JEF is a partnership format, and not a membership status.
