Jetstar will allow passengers to bring bags weighing up to 7 kg in the cabin

Jetstar has announced that from 2027 it will allow passengers to bring up to 7 kg of carry-on luggage in the cabin. The new rules will allow passengers to avoid having their bags weighed before boarding, and for carry-on luggage that meets the airline’s requirements, passengers will be able to bring it aboard without additional checks.

Jetstar says the change results from “extensive research and feedback” from the airline’s customers, which, according to the company, revealed that security staff are currently checking bags for smoke release through the cabin.

For passengers, Priority Carry-on is separate, and a larger bag for carry-on luggage that can be carried in the cabin may be allowed. Prices start at $25 for Launceston–Sydney, $33 for Sydney–Melbourne and up to $52 for Cairns–Tokyo. The material also specifies that the dimensions for carry-on luggage may change depending on the route.

Jetstar also notes that it will no longer weigh carry-on luggage in the cabin, but will allow passengers to bring carry-on items weighing up to 10 kg, provided they meet the airline’s size requirements. For carry-on luggage, the maximum dimensions are 40 × 30 × 20 cm, while for larger carry-on luggage they are up to 56 × 36 × 23 cm. The airline says Jetstar’s rules for carry-on luggage will remain the same: the bag can be up to 40 kg for purchase.
