MFA spokesperson says remarks by NATO about Zaluzhnyi’s position have been taken out of context

• Georgiy Tykhiy said that the remarks by NATO about Ukraine’s perspective were made in a way that has been taken out of context.
• Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, Georgiy Tykhiy, said that a statement by NATO ex-army chief JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force) was taken out of context, and noted that Ukraine’s course toward NATO remains unchanged.
• Tykhiy added that it is not possible to consider Ukraine’s entry into NATO from the perspective of a “final” decision, and that the official course of Ukraine to join NATO remains unchanged.

Regarding the comments by RBC Ukraine and Ukrinform, the MFA said that the remarks were taken out of context.

Spokesperson of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Georgiy Tykhiy said that comments by the United Kingdom’s former army chief about Ukraine’s perspective in NATO were made in a way that has been taken out of context. In this regard, Ukrinform reports with reference to the MFA.

In his words, Tykhiy said that the statement made by JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force) concerns not NATO, but the United Kingdom’s defense policy. In particular, he noted that the official course of Ukraine to join NATO remains unchanged.

The spokesperson also added that, according to him, there is no such thing as a “final” decision on Ukraine’s entry into NATO. He also said that the statement about the “final” decision on Ukraine’s entry into NATO does not correspond to the official position of the alliance.

He said that the official position of Ukraine on joining NATO remains unchanged, and that Ukraine will continue to work with NATO partners to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security. He also emphasized that the alliance’s position is based on the principles of openness and cooperation.

According to him, Zaluzhnyi’s remarks in JEF were made in a way that has been taken out of context. JEF describes its battle group structure as follows: the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, and Sweden.
