Wimbledon brings Serena Williams back
- Serena Williams is set to play her first singles match in nearly four years against Mayar Sherif.
- She has received a wild card and is also entered in the doubles with Venus Williams, with their opening match scheduled for July 2 or 3.
- On day two, the schedule includes Iga Swiatek, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and several British players.
Serena Williams is set to play on Centre Court at Wimbledon on Tuesday against Australia’s Mayar Sherif. It will be her first singles match in nearly four years and her first singles appearance since the 2022 US Open.
The 44-year-old Williams received an invitation from the organizers and is also entered in the doubles draw alongside her sister Venus. Their opening match against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra is scheduled for July 2 or 3.
On the second day of the tournament, reigning champion Iga Swiatek is also set to open the Centre Court program. Other players on the day include Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Amanda Anisimova, Ben Shelton, Katie Boulter, Jacob Fearnley and Arthur Fery.
After the first day, British tennis players are still searching for their first win at the tournament. Jack Draper withdrew due to injury, while Cameron Norrie became one of 10 Britons who lost in the first round.
