Wizards’ worst-situation scenario: Warriors won’t honor Anthony Davis trade request
- Sources say the Wizards are not planning to entertain Anthony Davis’s request to not be traded
- Davis could be signed to a new contract after the trade, with the amount exceeding $275 million over 6 years
- The Golden State Warriors are expected to discuss possible moves for the future with Jimmy Butler after the ACL
On June 30, 2026, new details emerged about what exactly Anthony Davis has in mind for his future with the Wizards.
As it turns out, the Wizards’ star is not going to make any promises to proceed without Anthony Davis and is not planning to honor his request, ESPN reports, citing Marc J. Spears.
The reason is that Davis has the right to sign a contract with the Wizards for up to $275 million over 6 years. The next contract would be for up to $62.8 million in the 2027-28 season.
Meanwhile, The Athletic reported on June 30, 2026, that the Wizards have no interest in trading Davis. That also means that the team’s management is preparing to keep Davis at the start of the season.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Wizards will be able to keep Davis, given that the player’s agent has already begun to negotiate with the Warriors. The player’s camp is also pushing for a move to Golden State.
According to ESPN, the Golden State plan is to pursue LeBron James’s replacement, with the team’s management also considering a trade for Anthony Davis. However, it is still unclear whether the Wizards will agree to let Davis go, as the player’s contract terms are a major factor.
As noted by Marca, the agent of Jimmy Butler said on June 30, 2026, that the Wizards do not want to discuss any trade involving Davis. That’s why the Warriors may not be able to complete the deal.
