On Tuesday, the Democratic primary for Colorado’s 1st congressional district was held, and NBC News reported the results. The primary was held on 2026-07-01.
Degette, 68, had served as a member of Congress for three terms, and was running for re-election. Her campaign said she was the most experienced candidate, and that she had been an advocate for the “Democratic Party” and for Medicare for All, as well as for stronger immigration enforcement.
Kiros previously said he would “fight for the people” and that Degette had been “out of touch with voters.” In a campaign video, he said he would cut taxes and increase funding for public schools.
Before the election, Kiros had been described as an “outsider” who would bring change to the district. General election opponent Fil Waizer won the Democratic nomination for governor, according to EL PAs, after winning 349,318 votes (55%) out of 80% of precincts reporting, while incumbent candidate Mike Bennett received 286,372 (45%).
Meanwhile, the Republican candidate for the seat, Markey, won the general election against Democrat John Hickenlooper, according to the report.
