Aster and Jonesska help Liberty win Commissioner’s Cup 93-85

In a matchup against New York Liberty, Las Vegas Aces overcame a 93-85 deficit and won the Commissioner’s Cup. A streak by Jonesska put New York ahead by 26 at one point, Brianna Stewart — 25, and then Aster, who carried the team to a win in the closing moments.

Las Vegas entered the match without A’ii’ii Wilson, who was suspended for the previous game against Chicago. The Aces’ leading scorer was Jackie Young: she finished with 25 points in 31 minutes, including 25 in the second half.

With four minutes remaining, Aces led 71-69, but New York took control with a 15-2 run. Jonesska helped Liberty pull away, extending the lead to 84-73 with 3:39 left, and then sealed the win with a zippy run.

With the win, Liberty won their third Commissioner’s Cup in the last four seasons: they previously won in 2023, and also in 2021 and 2023. For Stewart, the fourth Commissioner’s Cup title: she won her first with Seattle in 2021, and also claimed another with New York in 2023.

Just before halftime, the match was interrupted by a fight between the teams. Jonesska and A’ii’ii Wilson were both ejected for arguing, and the teams were separated.

With the win, Aces improved their record against Chicago Sky, while Liberty improved their record against Minnesota Lynx.
