The US and Iran are discussing a meeting in Qatar
- Washington is sending Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Doha for high-level meetings.
- In Tehran, they deny direct talks with the US and say there will be none in the coming days.
- Against the backdrop of contradictory statements, strikes in the region and discussions about the Strait of Hormuz continue.
The US is sending a high-level delegation to Doha, and Donald Trump said that Iran had allegedly requested a meeting in Qatar. At the same time, Tehran denies that direct talks with Washington are scheduled, and says the visit of an Iranian technical delegation to Qatar has a different purpose.
According to the White House press secretary, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump adviser and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are due to travel to Doha. CNN reported that Witkoff was already on his way to Qatar.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that there would be no negotiations with the US at any level in the coming days. He also said that Tehran and Washington have not yet reached the stage of a final agreement.
At the same time, the sides are exchanging accusations amid new strikes in the region. The US announced strikes on 10 Iranian military targets after attacks on commercial shipping, while Tehran reported retaliatory strikes on American bases in the region.
Separately, Iran and Oman held the first meeting of the joint committee on the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran insists that the future management of the strait should be determined in dialogue with Oman and other Gulf states, but within the framework of international law.
Meanwhile, traffic in the strait slowed after an incident involving one of the ships. According to tracking data, 29 commercial vessels passed through the strait on Saturday, and 12 on Sunday.
