Amnesty says RSF has committed crimes against civilians in El-Fashir
- Amnesty says that in 2024–2025, in el-Fashir, RSF carried out crimes against humanity and committed other crimes, including ethnic cleansing.
- In a report filed with a court, the organization said it would seek accountability for the crimes, including the killing of children, with particular focus on the use of weapons.
- The organization says the crimes involved the deliberate targeting of civilians, and that the evidence points to a possible link between the violence and the intent to destroy the civilian population.
Amnesty International has said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out crimes against humanity in el-Fashir between 2024 and 2025, during which they committed killings and other crimes. The organization said it reviewed materials, including testimonies from survivors.
Amnesty also states that RSF systematically attacked civilians in el-Fashir, and that the perpetrators were responsible for the attacks in the city of Darfur. The organization also points to violence against children.
Amnesty says that the investigation has documented the killings of civilians between 2024 and 2025. The organization also said that it found evidence of at least 89 victims, including children, who were killed or injured.
In the materials, it is stated that RSF has been committing crimes, including the intentional killing of civilians, and that the evidence indicates the existence of a pattern. Amnesty also notes that it is possible that RSF committed other crimes, including crimes against humanity, and that the organization may provide further details.
During the final phase of RSF’s operation in el-Fashir in 2025, Amnesty says, civilians were subjected to torture, and sexual violence was also committed. Amnesty also notes that it is possible that the perpetrators were aware of the crimes.
Amnesty says that the investigation has found evidence of serious violations, and that RSF, as stated in public reports, has not commented on the allegations. Amnesty also says that it will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates.
Amnesty says that UN investigators have reported that the violence in el-Fashir in 2025 may have involved war crimes and crimes against humanity. It also cites UN figures, noting that the UN mission has estimated that at least 6,000 people were killed in the city during the period.
Amnesty says that it is important to hold those responsible accountable, and that RSF, which has not commented on the allegations, should respond. The organization says that the UN should investigate the situation in El-Obeid, in northern Kordofan, where it says it may have committed similar crimes.
