Investigation: DFB’s trip to Germany’s Euro 2024 revealed possible illegal betting schemes

German investigators in the course of a probe into possible illegal betting schemes involving the 2024 European Championship.

According to the investigation, the German Football Association’s (DFB) headquarters in Germany’s Euro 2024 is operated by Euro 2024 GmbH, a subsidiary that is wholly owned by DFB.

The complaint filed by Bohuma alleges that the criminal investigation into the illegal “betting” scheme, which, according to the complainant, was linked to the match, was carried out by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office (LKA NRW), and that the organization’s structure may have enabled the scheme.

It is claimed that after the organization’s structure was changed, the city-operators were deprived of their rights. The part of such rights was then violated, while the city-operators were able to profit from the scheme.

According to Bild, the ranking of teams at the time included 150 officials, with the investigation into allegations against 66-year-old German and 46-year-old French officials. It was also noted that “how many betting tickets” were sold could be a reason for the scheme’s illegal profits.

DFB headquarters refuted the investigation’s findings about the alleged activities in the host cities. It also stated that the court in Munich ruled that the allegations were unfounded.
