Ukraine is working on a contract for the PAC-3 missile defense system with a view to intercepting missiles

Ukraine is working on a contract to purchase PAC-3 missiles, which, according to statements by German Defense Minister Michael Fedorov, are expected to be delivered first. The German side has announced the same in a separate press conference in Kyiv with 1 April 2026.
Fedorov said that Ukraine and Germany are discussing the procurement of missiles for the Ukrainian air defense system. In his words, Ukraine has a plan to purchase missiles, and also to replace existing ones with new missiles, which are expected to be called “neoheydnimy.”
The ministry said that the German side has signed a major contract for the supply of PAC-2 GEM-T and PAC-3 missiles, and that deliveries are scheduled for next year. The Ukrainian side will be able to use the missiles for defense purposes.
Fedorov also clarified that the contract includes missiles from European suppliers: the country will receive 1–3 missiles, but the exact number will be determined later. In addition, the parties will also work on additional supplies of missiles.
According to the ministry, Ukraine is planning to buy up to two missile defense systems: Raytheon’s PAC-2 and PAC-3 from German company Diehl Defence, as well as IRIS-T.
In particular, Ukraine is considering a critical set of missile defense systems for Patriot, NASAMS, and IRIS-T, as well as the planned domestic production of Patriot system interceptors, with financing and detailed technical plans.
