Sony is shutting down physical disc sales for PS3 and Vita

• Sony will stop selling physical discs for new PlayStation games in 2028
• PS3 PlayStation Store will close in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, but — in addition to — it will remain open until 2026

Sony has announced that it will stop selling physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in 2028. The company says this is due to the fact that the majority of game sales are now made in digital form.

Paralleling the company’s plan to shut down PlayStation Store services on PS3 and PS Vita. PS3 magazine will cease operations in some countries this year: subscriptions will end in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, while subscriptions in Latin America and the Caribbean will continue until 2026.

Subscriptions on all other PS3 and PS Vita regions are scheduled to end in 2027. Sony says it cannot change the new content format, but it is possible that games will still be released in digital form, as stated in the message: «the most important thing».

In addition, the company states that it will continue to sell physical discs for games on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
