According to Asharq Al-Awsat, The Next Web, The Next Web, SK Hynix has announced plans to invest $64.38 billion in a new semiconductor facility, including a NAND chip plant in Cheongju. The company will also invest in other semiconductor production facilities in the region.

In detail, the company will spend 80 trillion won on building a new NAND plant through 2029, and 20 trillion won—on building a chip plant by the end of 2027. Work on the Cheongju site is expected to begin in the second half of the year, and SK Hynix plans to start building the new M17 NAND plant.

In published materials, it is noted that the company’s investment in an AI data center is aimed at producing chips with high performance and reliability. The company is expected to use its own technology to build the plant and produce NAND chips.

It is also reported that SK Hynix is expanding its P&T7 facility in Cheongju—a memory production line for AI systems, including high-bandwidth memory. The company states that the new production line will be used to manufacture chips and improve performance.
