German prosecutors seek conviction over Nord Stream sabotage

On Thursday, German federal prosecutors submitted a case against 50-year-old Ukrainian citizen accused of involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022, which Russia blamed on Europe.

As the indictment says, the sabotage took place on September 26, 2022, when Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 were blown up. According to the prosecutors, the gas pipelines were damaged by an explosion caused by a series of events carried out in Ukraine in the summer of 2022.

In the indictment, the accused is charged with carrying out the sabotage, as well as with the public sphere of the case, which was described as “a kind of chain reaction of internal sabotage”. The prosecutors also claim that the plan for Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 was implemented in 2022.

DW reports that prosecutors have also accused: “the chairman of the Russian organization in Ukraine”. According to the indictment, the man was involved in the preparation of the explosion.

In the second case, prosecutors are demanding life sentences for the defendants in Italy, for the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines. According to the indictment, the defendants were involved in the preparation of the explosion and the subsequent sabotage.

The investigation also says that the accused had been involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines and that he was one of the people who carried out the explosion. Russia, meanwhile, has said the investigation is biased and that the accused is being targeted.
