India plans to dispatch title “Green Boots” to Everest

  • The ITBP resumed searching for the “Green Boots” title on the basis of a string of photos from Everest.
  • Operation to locate the remains began with a search of the Chinese side; however, the Tibetans had to be notified.
  • Following the discovery of the remains of Everest title “zone of death” to logistically, it became impossible to find the remains of the climbers in such high altitudes.

India’s official channel says it is trying to obtain the title “Green Boots” (“Green Boots”), based on the photos of Everest. AP reported this. The Indian side, in particular, is trying to tie the “Green Boots” title to Dorjee Morup, who died in 1996.

The Indian official channel says the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) began searching for the remains of Everest at high altitudes, where it is believed that the climbers’ remains were left behind. Operation to locate the remains began with a search of the Chinese side; however, the Tibetans had to be notified.

AP reports that Morup’s remains were found by ITBP officers in Everest in 1996. The body was found after three days of searching in a storm that had lasted for several days.

The “Green Boots” title was given through a green-and-red boot that was found on the mountain. AP also writes that the remaining three hours were spent by the climbers on the mountain. The Tibetan side is expected to be in control, and the search is expected to be conducted. China has already allowed Everest to be searched for the 2026 climbing season.

The Independent reports that the Indian plan is to obtain the title by sending a team of climbers to the mountain. The publication cites a statement by the DNC-test that the title will not be provided. It is also noted that ITBP is considering sending a team to Morup, hoping to get the title.

The Independent also provides the reason why the title “Green Boots” is not given: the operation to locate the remains is dangerous, and the death zone is more than 8,000 m. For the concrete awarding of the “Green Boots” title, it is necessary to cross the “First Step” and “Second Step” in order to reach the “death zone” and pass through the “death zone” area.

According to The Independent, the mission may be coordinated with Chinese authorities to preserve the remains of Tibet until India. Otherwise, it is planned to work through the red line to the other side. The mission is also expected to follow the logistics of the expedition. The Indian side believes that the green boot is the key to the title.

AP adds that the remains of 350 people were found at Everest from the moment the mountain was first climbed in 1953, and the number of bodies is expected to increase.
