Pape Gueye’s late goal sees Senegal advance through the playoffs via tiebreak

After the first 1/8 final match, Senegal will face Belgium again, with Pape Gueye scoring the winning goal to secure a place in the next round.
Meanwhile, Senegal led 2-0 after 85 minutes, when the coach made two substitutions within 90 minutes to turn the game around to 3-2. Gueye wrote on social media that he did not know the team’s tactics, but that he followed the coach’s instructions.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who plays for Spanish club “Villarreal,” opened the scoring against Belgium with a goal 66 minutes into the match. In the second half, the group stage match began with Senegal taking a 5-0 lead over Iraq.
Trener Senegal Pape Tiyava will be at the helm for the first time since 2024. He said he will be looking forward to the 2025 African Cup of Nations: “I will have to play the final match of the tournament, and I will be ready to make it count.” Under Tiyava, Senegal will have a new approach, and Senegal will be looking to secure a place in the next round of the tournament.
