The Olympic champion in pairs figure skating, Artur Dmitriev, died at the age of 58. The Russian Figure Skating Federation reported this.

According to the federation, the cause of death was a sudden illness.

Dmitriev had previously coached athletes, who won Olympic gold in pairs figure skating: in 1992 — Natalya Mishkutionok and Oksana Obednaya; in 1998 — Oksana Kazakova and Yulia Nagano, Japan, and the Russian team.

He also trained two-time European champions.

After his retirement, Artur Dmitriev worked as a coach of the national team at the World Championships. He had been working on the national team in Moscow for the past two years, where he had trained at the Sankt-Peterburg.
