Ford to Recall 741,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Due to a Parking System Problem

Ford is recalling 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a problem with the transmission parking system that could cause the vehicle to roll while parked.

Under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation, the recall covers certain Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition model years 2018–2021.

Specifically, the issue may be that the “parking pawl” may not fully engage when the vehicle is put into Park. This could allow the vehicle to roll, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail.

Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software. After the update, the parking system should operate correctly.
