  • Ford is recalling 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to issues with the transmission parking system.
  • Owners of the affected vehicles will be asked to update the software. The recall covers Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition models from 2018–2021.
  • Ford says it will notify owners about the recall and will replace the Powertrain Control Module to resolve the issue.

Ford is recalling 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a problem with the transmission parking system that could cause the vehicle to roll while parked.

Under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation, the recall covers certain Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition model years 2018–2021.

Specifically, the issue may be that the “parking pawl” may not fully engage when the vehicle is put into Park. This could allow the vehicle to roll, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail.

Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software. After the update, the parking system should operate correctly.

For additional information, vehicle owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
