SGT Automobili has unveiled a new DTM-style Alfa Romeo 155 under the name 55-SGT. The model is based on the legendary Giulia Quadrifoglio, but the styling cues are taken from the 1996 155, which it aims to bring to life with the most authentic racing look.
The company says that there will be fewer than 55 cars in total: Stradale and Trofeo. Top Gear reports that Stradale is built with an eye on durability, while Trofeo is positioned as a track-focused specification with 740bhp.
According to Top Gear, Stradale uses a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo with a pre-specified output of 513bhp, 552bhp and 612bhp. Trofeo makes 740bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. As for the overall setup, the car uses a fully custom suspension system, while the gearbox is mounted with a mild hybrid of the DTM-spec gearbox. Gazzetta also adds that the 55-SGT has an upgraded V6 architecture, and uses a new engine upgrade strategy: a 2.9-liter engine producing 620 Cv for Stradale and 750 Cv for Trofeo. For transmission, it uses an 8-speed sequential gearbox, and the manufacturer says that it should be able to deliver the same performance as in Top Gear.
Carbon fiber and Kevlar are used alongside a carbon-fiber composite body. Aerodynamic elements, including a front diffuser and a rear wing, should provide downforce of up to 460kg at 143mph, as stated by Top Gear. Gazzetta adds that the car weighs 5,050 mm in length and 1,995 mm in width.
Interior is a two-seater layout. Top Gear says that the car is based on the DTM race car, with a front-to-rear weight distribution and a rear wing for maximum downforce. Gazzetta says it uses Sparco seats, and that — thanks to the design — the car has no rear seats and is built for pure track use.
