England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said the team is ready for its round-of-32 World Cup match against DR Congo and is determined to perform for Thomas Tuchel. England advanced to the knockout stage from first place in the group after a 2-0 win over Panama in New Jersey.
Pickford noted that the team has belief, cohesion, and a clear understanding of its shared goal. According to him, Tuchel’s instructions in camp create the feeling that the team is “ready to go to war,” while tactical talks help them get into the game.
The goalkeeper also said that England want to win in normal time, but are also prepared for extra time and penalties. He stressed that the squad includes players who can come off the bench and help in any scenario.
Separately, Pickford said he continues to work with a psychologist and is focused on his own development. England’s next opponent will be DR Congo, who progressed as one of the best third-placed teams.
Meanwhile, the English media are discussing Tuchel’s tactics, Harry Kane’s role, and the team’s problems against opponents who sit deep in defense. Reports also note that England can use different options on the flanks and in midfield, including Eberechi Eze, Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka.
Analysts point out that the team looks better against opponents who leave more space. At the same time, the matches against Ghana and Panama showed that it is harder for the English to create chances against a low block.
