He also added that he was grateful for the chance to play for Algeria, saying: “immense honor and a great source of pride”. He concluded: “It is the new generation’s turn to play”.

Mahrez, who plays for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, ends his international career at the age of 35. Over his international career, he played 119 matches for Algeria and scored 40 goals, as well as winning Africa Cup of Nations 2019.

Mahrez, who has won the Premier League with Leicester City and the Champions League with Manchester City, has played for the Algerian national team since 2014.
