Monaco orders extradition of Vadym Yermolaiev, wanted in Ukraine
- Monaco has ordered the extradition of the wanted man to Ukraine, citing that his arrest is linked to the logic of the case, including that he faces a 13-year prison sentence.
- The prosecutor’s office said that he will not be subject to an Interpol Red Notice; it also stated that there is no connection between the extradition request and the Interpol Red Notice.
- A court has found Vadym Yermolaiev guilty, and Kyiv in 2023 ordered him to serve a sentence for the involvement in a criminal case involving the shooting at a vehicle in Crimea, after which he was arrested by the Moscow authorities in 2022.
Monaco court ordered the extradition of the wanted man to Ukraine, finding that his arrest is linked to the logic of the case, including that he faces a 13-year prison sentence.
As the prosecutor’s office said, Monaco ordered the extradition, and that he would not be subject to an Interpol Red Notice. The material also states that Interpol Red Notice is not provided due to the fact that it is not needed to confirm the arrest.
Prosecutor of Monaco Stephane Thibault (Stephane Thibault) said that the investigation established that the extradition is effective in the fight against international criminality, as he said, “as long as the courts are able to act”.
The prosecutor’s office said it would not be possible to determine the exact circumstances of the case. French media, citing a source, said that the extradition is not possible, as the person is not known to be involved in a criminal case.
In particular, the court found that the extradition request is justified and that the Ukrainian partner Vadym Yermolaiev — 58-year-old, a resident of Ukraine, who is alleged to have committed crimes in the city of Kyiv — is wanted by the Ukrainian authorities.
According to the court, the extradition request is based on the fact that the person is suspected of involvement in the shooting of a vehicle in Crimea, and that he was arrested by the Moscow authorities in 2022.
