French sports brand Alpine will present the A110 FUTURE prototype at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside the new A110 electric version. According to Autocar, the automaker will show an “Alpine moment” moment with the prototype’s petrol-powered model.
According to Independent, the A110 FUTURE public debut will take place at Goodwood from 9-12 July, where the prototype is expected to run on all three days of the festival. Autocar’s materials also indicate that the car will demonstrate its capabilities by breaking down the A110’s dimensions.
Alpine says that the A110 FUTURE is built on the Alpine Performance Platform (APP), developed for electric sports cars. According to Independent at Autocar, the platform uses an aluminum construction, 800V technology, and two battery blocks placed in the car, with a 40:60 weight split.
Independent also reports that the APP architecture features an electric drive system with two motors, a motor, an inverter, and an integrated 3-in-1 unit. Autocar adds that Alpine has developed liquid cooling for the electric motors based on silicon-carbide.
In a comment to Autocar, Alpine design director Philippe Krief said that the design of the two battery blocks ensures that the electric A110 will be “significantly lower” than its petrol-powered predecessor, and that it will also have a range of over 340 miles. Krief also notes that the company’s platform design makes it possible to create a very low center of gravity, which, in turn, will help the car achieve the same handling characteristics as a conventional A110 without derating on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Autocar adds that the new A110 could be presented in a “matured” form, with design, series production, and the Alpine lineup narrowed down to a single final model. Independent, meanwhile, notes that Alpine plans to split the electric lineup into two models, with the A290 and A390—two sport fastbacks with 470bhp. In addition, on 9 July “Alpine Moment” will feature the A110 FUTURE, with the final stage of the E20 Formula One world champion.
