Turkey’s Erdogan faces claims of incitement over alleged crimes in the country’s southern region

• Turkey’s Erdogan has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council, saying that in the region of el-Obeida in Sudan (also known as the “Pivnichnyy Kordofan”) it is being carried out a new round of a catastrophe involving the killings of civilians.
• According to the UN, between 6 and 28 April in el-Obeida in Sudan, at least 15,000 civilians were killed, with 41 injured.
• The material also states that the events are ongoing, and that the RSF has been conducting airstrikes and ground attacks against civilians in the city of el-Obeida since 2025.

UN humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, Volker Türk, said that in Sudan the el-Obeida region (North Kordofan) is experiencing a new round of catastrophe, with systematic attacks on civilians, including killings with the use of weapons, which are carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Regarding Turkey’s claims in Yemen, the UN Security Council said that the information about the events in el-Obeida in Sudan is being investigated. Vin also said that these accusations might be linked to the ongoing conflict and that it is possible that the attacks are being carried out by the RSF against civilians.

The report also states that the number of civilians killed in the el-Obeida region stands at 18,000 people, including those killed and wounded, and that the number of injuries is also increasing.

According to the UN, between 6 and 28 April in el-Obeida in Sudan, at least 45,000 civilians were killed, with 41 injured. It also says that the infrastructure in the city was damaged, including by explosions, fires, and medical facilities being affected.

The report also notes that in the period from 2023, the RSF has confirmed that it is carrying out airstrikes and ground attacks in the city. It also states that at least 59,000 people were killed, with about 13 million buildings destroyed, and that at least 30 million people need humanitarian aid.

It is also stated that in 2025, the military attacks in el-Obeida, which began in April, were carried out by the RSF, and that the UN said that it is possible that the violence is being committed against civilians. The UN also said that the UN’s position is that the RSF is responsible for the attacks on the city.
