The Governorate of the Vatican City State has ordered 20 electric cars for the Vatican’s internal transport. As Top Gear reports, the vehicles will have a top speed of 28mph and a range of 46 miles, and the battery is a TRIS unit.

According to Top Gear, the program for converting the Vatican to electric vehicles is called “Ecological Conversion 2030” and involves the purchase of CO2-emissions-free vehicles, as well as the “last mile” delivery service. Top Gear also notes that the Vatican’s territory is 109 acres, including the area of Rome.

The Fiat Topolino, described by Top Gear, has an electric powertrain with a maximum speed of 28mph and a 46-mile range. The battery pack has 5.4kWh, and the vehicle is charged at home using a standard outlet.

According to Autocar, the Fiat Topolino, which is being purchased by the Vatican for use in Ukraine/Europe (in the context of the battery — the United Kingdom), is a model on sale in 2023, with a price in the UK starting at £8,995. Autocar’s technical specifications are as follows: 8bhp electric motor, 5.5kWh battery (usable), official WLTP range 46 miles, and a maximum charging power of 2.3kW.

Autocar also adds that Topolino is a two-seat vehicle, with its L6 classification confirmed in the UK. The magazine notes that the UK Topolino will be charged using cable standards for Europe, specifically the CCS fast-charging system.
