BMW has confirmed that the new X5 M will feature a V-8 engine. Starting with the X5 plant in BMW’s Grunvild (Shat Pitvdenna Karolyna) company, it will produce—electrically, hybrid, and without gasoline—versions of the X5 M with a V-8.
One of the confirmed highlights of the new X5 M BMW lineup is the new iX5, which will be the next X5 with an electric drive system. The materials also indicate that the Neue Klasse platform will feature both electric drives, but may also use internal combustion engines.
The electric iX5 60 xDrive uses two electric motors, with a combined output of 570 hp. 593 lb-ft of torque. According to BMW’s range estimates, with a charge of 435 miles, and a 10 to 80% charge on a DC fast-charger, it can be recharged in as little as 22 minutes. In Europe, it is also said that the iX5 can be equipped with a 140kWh battery on an 800V infrastructure.
For the lineup of the X5, there will be a variety of powertrain types: gasoline variants, plug-in hybrid, and also at least one kind of diesel for some markets. Whatever the case, X5 Goes Electric is the overall direction for the model line, though that doesn’t mean the X5 M company will abandon its V-8.
As for when X5 M will arrive, the report suggests it will likely be a new model that will debut at the end of 2027 or as a 2028 model. It also remains unclear whether an electric variant of the iX5 M will be offered, but BMW has not confirmed the plan yet.
