  • BBC Two will show a game recap after the match, and BBC iPlayer makes it available from 6am BST.

The England v Mexico match in the 1/16 final of the World Cup kicks off at 01:00 BST. BBC Sport and BBC Two will be showing highlights for viewers who do not want to know the result in advance.

Materials from BBC Sport say that it is possible to watch the game without spoilers by using BBC Sport’s own notifications. To do this, follow the “Notifications” section in your account.

If you want to receive new news without spoilers until 09:00 BST, you should subscribe to “Sport News”, and also “Top Stories” and “Football News”. For automatic updates about the match, you should select “Football”, “FIFA World Cup” and “England Men”.

If you do not want to receive new updates, you can simply unsubscribe by clicking “England Men” in the notifications section. You can also mute all notifications by selecting “Mute all notifications”, which will stop all updates from appearing.

Also, BBC says that if you are in the UK, you can watch BBC Two’s repeat of the match without spoilers at 7.10am BST. To do this, you need to activate the BBC iPlayer repeat from 6am BST.

According to BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski, the reason is to allow fans who do not want to know the outcome in advance to watch the match. It also states that the earlier the match is broadcast, the more likely it is that spoilers will appear.
