Wimbledon postpones match between Serena Williams and Venus Williams due to injury
- Wimbledon has decided that the match between Serena Williams and Venus Williams will be arranged “to be arranged”, with play starting at 4:30pm BST on 4 July.
- Serena Williams has said that the tournament match against Mаyа Джoйn is affected by an “injury doubt”.
- Wimbledon director Jamie Baker explained that “it’s only a matter of time, how long the match will be delayed, and how long it can be postponed due to the injury”.
At Wimbledon, Serena Williams’ match against Venus Williams was not scheduled to start at the beginning of the day, but its start time was changed to “to be arranged” (“it will be arranged”). According to the schedule, the match was originally due to start at 4:30pm BST on 4 July, but it was not due to be played.
As it turned out, Serena Williams, who is 44 years old, after injuring her knee during the match against the American player Mayа Джoйn on Centre Court, was unable to continue the match.
In the meantime, Wimbledon officials said that the tournament match between Williams and Williams was postponed due to an injury. Commenting on the Grand Slam in London, Wimbledon director Jamie Baker said that “it’s only a matter of time, how long it can be postponed due to injury”.
Wimbledon also noted that Serena Williams will be able to play in the match, and that the match will be played as soon as possible. In turn, Wimbledon officials said that the match will be played if Serena Williams is fit.
In the first-round match of the tournament, Serena Williams beat Venus Williams in three sets: 6-3 6-7 6-3. After the match, Venus Williams said she was unable to continue due to injury, and that she was not able to play.
Serena Williams’ injury is not serious, and she is expected to be ready for the next match. Wimbledon officials said that the match will be played on the same day if Serena Williams is fit.
Serena Williams has won the Wimbledon singles title 7 times. She has also won the doubles title 14 times.
