Londoners sentenced two men for smuggling Iran International

Two Londoners were sentenced for smuggling from Iran International’s reporter Pouria Zeraati. According to AP, the judge found that Nandito Badea was involved for eight years and George Stana for 12 years.

AP also reports that the court heard that Bobbie Cheema-Grubb said, that the court “could not rule out” that the smuggling was carried out “in the interests” of the Iranian state. In material from BBC, the judge also stated: Stana was found guilty of smuggling, while Badea was not, because he was not proven to have carried out the smuggling.

According to the BBC, the defendant Zeraati was brought to the Wimbledon area in London, and he was to board the car himself. According to BBC, the defendants had been followed by police, and the smuggling was carried out after Zeraati was taken into the car. BBC also reports that the defendants were found to have been carrying out the smuggling, and that Stana was involved in smuggling.

According to AP, the court heard that Badea was an accomplice to Zeraati, and that Stana drove the car to deliver him; the court also heard that the defendants were arrested at Heathrow. AP says that Badea and Stana had been in the UK in 2024, where the third defendant, David Andrei, allegedly carried out the smuggling.

AP also reports that the British intelligence agency MI5 prevented the smuggling attempt by Iranian agents. According to AP materials, Zeraati was to travel by car to roboti, while the defendants were to carry out the smuggling. AP also reports that the charges were brought for smuggling, including against Iranian groups, and that the defendants were arrested at Heathrow.
